Anti Ageing Aromatherapy

The best Anti-ageing aromatherapy oils

The definition of anti-ageing is to delay, stop or retard the ageing process. Our bodies are made of cells, and ageing occurs when there is cell death.

An essential oils contains more than 100 components and has many properties. Concerning anti-ageing, we need to focus on essential oils that are healing, astringent, regenerating and antiwrinkle.

Dealing with antiaging means using a very good base oil or cream. One of the most effective anti-aging base oil is Rose hip oil. This oil is regenerating the tissues, it reducing scars and skin discoloration and it is a very good anti-wrinkle oil (not to use on acne or oily skin).

Of course a very healthy lifestyle is beneficial for antiaging.

With holistic aromatherapy, the choice of essential oil is not only to fight against one issue (aging in this topic) but to work on a whole healing body process. For example you can have help with depression, boost your immune system or use an essential oil which will give you energy. Using a synergy of 3 oils is always very beneficial.

Along many essential oils, these 2 oils are very powerful with antiaging:

Rose Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens var roseae): it has anti-inflammatory, astringent tonic effect. It is a cellular regenerative wound healing oil. Excess of free radicals stresses the cell membranes of the skin and as a result, the collagen can start to being damaged. That would lead to wrinkles. This essential oil is a powerful antioxidant and can protect the cells from free radicals.

Cistus (Cistus ladaniferus): It is cicatrizing oil. It helps mature skins and it is regenerating for slow healing infected areas. It also has the potential to arrest bleeding. Wrinkles happen when the hormones activities slow down. Less oestrogen secretion causes less collagen and elastin production. This essential oil promotes the collagen production. As an oestrogen-like, it mimics the activity of this hormone. It then reduces the wrinkles formation. This oil needs to be used with other oils to reduce her strong smell.

We can also mention Carrot seed essential oil for reducing age spots.

Create your own aromatherapy anti-ageing cream:

* 15 ml Rose-hip (or neutral cream)

* Rose Geranium essential oil, 7 drops

* Cistus essential oil, 1 drop

* Rose essential oil, 1 drop

* Vitamin E oil (Wheat germ oil for example), 1 drop

* Apply few drops with your palms on washed face morning and evening.

Eat your way to a vibrant new you! By Dr Longmore

What is ageing?

Everyone talks about ageing, but what is it??

Why do we experience the symptoms of creaky joints, less energy, and generally slowing down?

More importantly, do we need to experience this?

Of course, no one in his or her right mind would attempt to arrest the progress of time, but you can slow the effects of time, because many of the symptoms are the result of the way we live rather than the inevitable effects of ageing. Age is a number. It is the way you feel that determines your quality of life.

Staying younger, in every sense of the word except age, involves an integrated approach involving both physical and mental health. One without the other is ineffective. You can’t achieve a healthy body without a healthy mind.

To slow the ageing process you need to understand the underlying causes of ageing, essentially every aspect of you comes from only two sources:

  • Your genes (a very small portion)
  • Lifestyle   (the majority of cases of heart diseases, diabetes, strokes, obesity, raised cholesterol, hypertension, arthritis develop as a direct result of our lifestyle)

So, if you adopt a more balanced lifestyle, you may not completely eradicate these conditions but you will certainly reduce their effects.

The body is made up of lots of tiny cells; about 50 trillion. The powerhouse of our bodies lies in each of these cells. They use the energy and oxygen delivered by the blood stream to power themselves. They act in unison as specific organs (such as the liver, heart, brain and muscles) and enable all of the bodily functions to occur.

The secret to feeling younger is in providing our cells with the building blocks that they need to survive and to clear the cellular waste before it accumulates.

Nutrition is at the base of everything we do and everything we are and can play a key part in ensuring healthy cells and a healthier you. You are what you eat.

If you place your health as your top priority, you can achieve much higher quality and enjoyment of life.

In practice this means really simple changes to your lifestyle, such as:

  • Changing your diet  to reduce the risk of disease
  • Lowering stress
  • Exercising

Many studies have shown that free radicals play a key part in the ageing process. “Free radicals” is a term used to describe damaged cells that can be problematic. They are “free” because they are missing a critical molecule. Free radicals can injure cells, damaging DNA and this creates the seed for disease. They can also cause a chain reaction leading to an increasing spiral of damage to healthy cells. There are many signs of free radicals, including:

  • Stress
  • High blood pressure and heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Inflammation
  • Pain such as joint pain arthritis
  • Type 1 or type 2 diabetes
  • Eczema and other skin diseases
  • Alzheimer
  • Excess weight or obesity
  • Chronic syndromes such as fibromyalgia, fatigue, sleep disturbance and depression

Free radicals steal your years and their presence in your body can be caused by many things such as:

Environmental toxins (smoke, pollution, heavy metals, chemicals in food and over-processed food)

Chemicals in skin products, cleaning liquids, detergents and electronic equipment

  • Radiation
  • Infection
  • Viruses
  • Bacteria
  • Fungi
  • Other internal and external stress factors
  • Inflammation
  • Added sugar
  • Poor nutrition
  • Emotional stresses

Free radicals can affect you in a number of wars and can impact on a number of organs and bodily functions such as:

  • Liver, they can impair the liver’s ability to clear toxins from the body. If your liver does not detoxify well, the result is oxidative stress. This can lead to fatigue, acne, wrinkles and rashes.
  • Kidneys, resulting in water retention and oedemas.
  • Mitochondria, these are found in most of our cells and are very important, they produce energy, which the body needs to work and live. Without good energy production, you end up suffering from fatigue, lethargy and early ageing.
  • The Digestive system, this is the source of your youth. Allowing uninvited guests into your stomach and intestines such as bacteria, fungi, and other infestations can cause oxidative stress. Your intestines are connected with your brain and your digestion determines your wellbeing.
  • Joints and ligaments when they hurt or are sore and swollen
  • The heart and blood vessels, causing high blood pressure and heart palpitations
  • The skin, which is your business card wrinkles and sagging skin are cause by oxidative damage to the layer of the skin.

You can stay young with antioxidants, they fight free radicals and reduce the damage they cause in your body.

So to protect your body from free radicals there are some great foods you should eat:

  • Vitamin C and A and the many others micronutrients that we get via a diet rich in quality vegetables, fruits and berries.
  • Root vegetables – they contain water soluble fibres that keep your blood sugar under control, Carrots, sweet potatoes, beetroot, celeriac, turnips, parsnips, Swedes, onions and garlic.
  • Pulses chick pea, kidney beans, cannellini, butter beans, black-eyed beans, adzuki and lentils

If you want to minimise the impact of free radicals you should follow the following advice:

  • Choose organic food if you can
  • Eat good quality protein, fish and lean meat
  • Drink 1 to 1 1/2litre of water or herbal tea
  • Eat regular meals (never skip breakfast and don’t forget your snack)
  • Eat a balance diet with healthy fats, good quality proteins, complex carbs and vegetables.
  • Take a multi vitamin daily and some good probiotics
  • Don’t forgot your exercise and relaxation
  • Control your stress and get enough sleep

  • Any chemicals, sugar and excess salt
  • Avoid all white stuff (white bread, rice, flour, pasta etc..)
  • Processed food
  • Trans fats
  • Smoking

  • Dairy products
  • Alcohol
  • Meat

Make Me Feel ultimate SUN PROTECTION guide

How to choose your sunscreen?

The sun is great for the mood but not that much for the skin. Without the protection of clothes and  an effective sunscreen against both UVA and UVB, prolonged exposure causes sunburns and can lead to skin cancer and ageing of the skin. Sunburn doesn’t just happen on holiday, you can burn in the UK, even when it’s cloudy.

This is a guide to help you choose the best sunscreen for you and your family.
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF)

« SPF (sun protection factor) is a relative measure of how long a sunscreen will protect you from ultraviolet (UV) B rays. The chief cause of reddening and sunburn, UVB rays tend to damage the epidermis, skins outer layers, where the most common (and least dangerous) forms of skin cancer occur. Those cancers are linked to sun-accumulation over the years. Another type of skin cancer, melanoma, is thought to be caused by brief, intense exposures, such as a blistering sunburn. »

Article of July 2015 magazine issue Consumer Reports.

Skin type: extremely sensitive to the sun

Level of protection: Very high

Protection sign: 50+

Skin type: sensitive skin

Level of protection: High

Protection sign: 30 / 50

Skin type: intermediate skin

Level of protection: Average

Protection sign: 15 / 20

Skin type: fairly resistant skin

Level of protection: Low

Protection sign: 6 / 10

Warning! The total screen terms or total protection terms no longer exist. No solar product guarantees total protection against ultraviolet rays. Since 2006, indices above 50 (60, 80 and even 100 %) have been grouped by the European Commission into a single 50+ index. A measure that was taken to protect consumers and avoid thinking that with a 100 % index they could stay all day in the sun without needing to put on protective cream and without the effects of the sun on the skin.

What is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?

UV represent only 5% of the solar radiation received on earth but are very powerful. There are several sorts there. While UVC is stopped by the ozone layer, UVA and UVB reach the earth and have effects on the skin.

UVA: A like age or allergy

Most of us are exposed to large amounts of UVA throughout our lifetime. UVA rays account for up to 95 percent of the UV radiation reaching the Earth’s surface. Although they are less intense than UVB, UVA rays are 30 to 50 times more prevalent. They are present with relatively equal intensity during all daylight hours throughout the year, and can penetrate clouds and glass.

UVB: B like bronzing or burn

UVB, the chief cause of skin reddening and sunburn, tends to damage the skin’s more superficial epidermal layers. It plays a key role in the development of skin cancer and a contributory role in tanning and photo aging. Its intensity varies by season, location, and time of day. However, UVB rays can burn and damage your skin year-round, especially at high altitudes and on reflective surfaces such as snow or ice, which bounce back up to 80 percent of the rays so that they hit the skin twice. UVB rays do not significantly penetrate glass.

Sun exposure

It’s also important to take into account the factor of sun exposure. Depending on where you are, you will have to adapt the choice of sunscreen. The power of the exposure may be low, medium, high or very high. The sun will not have the same impact on your skin if you are high up in the mountains or on a beach in Mauritius than if you are in England on a fine day.

Classic VS Mineral: Which is which?

« Classic and Mineral Sunscreens are differentiated by their active sun protection ingredients. Classic sunscreens use chemical (also commonly referred as “non-mineral” or “traditional”) active ingredients designed to absorb and dissipate UVA/UVB rays, while Mineral sunscreens use mineral (also commonly referred to as “physical”) active ingredients such as Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide to scatter and reflect UVA/UVB rays. »

Waterproof protection

If you spend the day at the seaside or swimming pool, it’s important to buy sunscreen completely water-resistant. This will allow you and especially allow your children to bathe while remaining protected from the sun. Waterproof sunscreens are made to resist on average two baths of 20 min per day.

Which sunscreen texture to choose?

Lotions, oils, sprays, mists, gels… You have the choice! Here’s what you need to know before choosing the right sun protection for you.

Milks and lotions:

As a spray, solar milk is very convenient and quickly penetrates the skin. More fluid than sun creams, milks are very soft and do not form thick and thick films on the skin. This texture is ideal for swimming pool or for hairy areas on men.

Thanks to its atomizing format which allows reaching all the areas of the skin, in a homogeneous way and in micro-droplets, the solar mist is also appreciated for the refreshing sensation. Its veil is deposited on the skin to protect it from the sun without weighing it down.

Rich in water, solar jelly brings freshness and hydration thanks to non-greasy, melting textures that penetrate the skin quickly. In tube or pot format, it is often fragrant to bring you a fruity and exotic touch.

The solar oil gives us a satiny shine, thanks to their fluid texture which spreads evenly on the skin and allows combining thus tanning and optimal protection by choosing a high index.

The solid texture of the solar stick allows a localized application on sensitive areas of the face (nose, cheekbones, and lips). Its format makes it possible to transport it everywhere. It is recommended for water sports, skiing, and hiking in high altitudes.

Tanning Spray :

They are sun protection products but helping to boost the tanning. For example, some formulations such as Bronz complex from Bioderma stimulates the natural biological tanning process for safely-tanned skin. This tanning complex is combined with vitamin E which offers real cellular protection thanks to its anti-oxidant, photoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, in addition to its surface UVA/UVB protective activity, this complex offers real internal biological protection : Cellular Bioprotection. This product preserves and stimulates the skin’s defences during sun exposure.

Oral supplements:

For intolerant or even allergic people to the sun, taking a supplement rich in carotenoids could help prepare and protect the skin before being exposed. Those complements are also widely used for helping getting a lovely tan faster and prolonging it after holiday.

For example Phytobronz Sun Preparation from Arkopharma laboratory is a food supplement who prepares your skin whilst protecting it from cellular ageing and giving you a natural glowing complexion. This formula combining the best active ingredients: natural carotenoids, vitamin E, Argan, Borage and Sesame.

Solar products are very good for your children because they contain good ingredients. In order to protect the precious wealth of cells in babies’ skin, Mustela researchers working at Laboratoires Expanscience have selected the avocado from among dozens of other plants. Using their unique expertise, they have succeeded in identifying molecules that are extremely rare in nature – molecules whose role is to aid the fruit as it grows and matures. These molecules have been extracted, purified and concentrated and have yielded a patented natural active ingredient: Avocado perseose.

Make me feel’s advice

We have to be careful because the chemical filters do not suit children’s skin under 36 months. For babies, only use mineral based sun protection.

Do not forget, with the contact of the towel, with the drops of perspiration or the frictions of the sand, the sun protection disappears quickly, so it’s important to put in regularly. To be effective all day long the sun protection must be apply on the skin every 2 hours.

Finally, it’s not recommended to keep a sunscreen from one year to another. Once the tube has been opened for a long time, exposed to sand and sun, it loses its effectiveness so it is better to throw it away at the end of the holiday and buy a new tube early in the summer.

NEW AT MAKE ME FEEL: injections / Dr Nguyen

Hyaluronic acid injections from Filorga with Dr Nguyen

With years, skin loses its moisture and becomes thinner. Lines and wrinkles start to settle. Hyaluronic acid injections can help smoothing them without surgery.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body. Like a sponge, it absorbs water and maintain the skin deep layers hydrated. It’s possible to inject this molecule as a gel to give volume and plump the skin or smooth wrinkles. The hyaluronic acid will mix with the one contained in the body and will progressively resorb. It is advised to have regular injections done, every 6 months on average depending on patients. Reversibility is an advantage compared to the permanent effect of a cosmetic surgery.

What can we treat?

The most common treatments concern the naso-labial and marionette lines around the mouth. It’s also possible to reshape the lips or give them more definition, or contour the face and add volume on the cheekbones.

The treatment in itself

Most of product contain local anesthetic but some don’t. A numbing cream can be applied before to improve the comfort during the injection. The procedure is quite quick, between 15 and 30 minutes depending on which areas are treated. A massage of the area will be performed to make sure the product is well placed.

About £350, but it varies with the product used and the number of syringes required to treat the areas.

The results

They are visible instantly but the effect is maximum about 10 days after the injection when the body integrates the molecule and pumps water. The treated area may swell for a few days, bruise or present redness, but you can apply make-up while everything is getting back into order. Depending on people, their metabolism and their personal habits (cigarette, sun exposure, physical activity), injections have to be repeated every 6, 8 or 12 months in the best of cases.

There are very few as the molecule is naturally present in the body, the risk of allergy is extremely low. Injections should be avoided when pregnant or breast-feeding.

The Anticort cream is suitable for infants, children and adults.

I also wanted to talk about FREZYDERM Baby Care range, which has been formulated to include safe and effective pharmaceutical materials that gently care for and nourish delicate infant skin. The main ingredients of this range of products are:

  • Chamomile, which has excellent soothing and anti-irritant properties that reduce inflammations and redness
  • Wheat proteins, which are known for their softening and moisturizing effects

In addition all baby products are: Free from added color, alcohol free, and free from parabens and preservatives.  The range was awarded by the Beauty Shortlist Mama & Baby Awards 2016 as the Best Baby Skincare Brand (International).
